Heating Installation & Replacement

A heating system is the one appliance your family depends on most through a New Jersey winter. Install quality matters as much as the equipment — proper sizing, clean duct connections, and correct setup determine whether that furnace runs quietly for 20 years or gives you trouble from year three. AGR HVAC installs residential heating systems across Morris, Sussex, Warren, Passaic, and Essex counties.

Signs It’s Time for a New Heating System

Age is the biggest factor — most furnaces are done between 15 and 20 years. Beyond that, watch for: repairs getting frequent or expensive, heating bills climbing while your usage stays the same, the system cycling on and off constantly, some rooms never getting warm, or the furnace making noises it never used to make. If you’re looking at a major repair on a unit past its prime, that money almost always works harder in a new system.

Choosing the Right System for Your Home

We’ll walk you through the real decisions: the right capacity for your home’s size, insulation, and layout (oversized furnaces short-cycle and wear out early; undersized ones run nonstop), and efficiency ratings — AFUE tells you how much of your fuel becomes heat versus going up the flue. Higher AFUE costs more upfront and less every winter. We’ll explain the tradeoff in practical terms, and if anything in your home’s existing setup needs upgrading to support the new equipment, we’ll tell you honestly.

What Installation Day Looks Like

A standard furnace replacement typically takes a day. We protect your floors and work areas, disconnect and remove the old unit and take it with us, set the new furnace, connect it to your existing ductwork, gas or oil line, and electrical, verify venting is correct and safe, start the system up and check combustion and airflow, and walk you through the new thermostat, filter location, and anything else you need to know. We don’t leave until the system is running the way it should and you know how to operate it.

Thermostats: Don’t Overlook the Small Box on the Wall

A new heating system paired with a 20-year-old thermostat is a missed opportunity. Modern thermostats let the system run only when you need it, which is where a lot of real-world savings come from. We’ll recommend options that work with your new equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a furnace installation take? Most standard replacements are completed in one day. If venting, ductwork, or fuel-line changes are needed, we’ll factor that into the quote and timeline upfront.

Should I switch fuel types when I replace my system? Usually not — switching fuels involves new lines, permits, and infrastructure that rarely pays back. We recommend the best system for the fuel and setup your home already has.

What happens to my old furnace? We disconnect it, remove it, and take it with us. You don’t have to deal with disposal.

Will a new furnace lower my heating bills? A modern high-efficiency furnace wastes less fuel than an aging one, so most homeowners see lower bills — how much lower depends on the efficiency jump, your home’s insulation, and how you use the system. We’ll give you a realistic picture, not a fantasy number.
